Van, gelincikler ve Akdamar / Van, poppies and Akdamar

 

Çok az şehir zihnimde bir çiçek veya bitki ile bu kadar direkt ilişkiye sahiptir. Bodrum, Kaş denince salkım salkım begonviller gelir aklıma, Ege denince mis gibi kokusuyla birlikte kekik; Trakya tarlalar dolusu ayçiçekleri demektir benim için. Ama bu listenin en başında tartışmasız Van var; Van ve gelincikleri. Van denince Van kedisi gelir belki birçok insanın aklına ama benim için Van, kırılgan ve naif yapıları ile gelincikler demektir. Bir de, muhteşem güzelliği ile Akdamar Adası’nda yer alan Akdamar Katedrali.

2011 yılının Mayıs ayıydı. İlerde kullanmak üzere, çok yakın bir çift arkadaşımızla birlikte Pegasus’un indirimli uçak biletlerinden almıştık. Bir gün beraberce bu biletlerle nereye gitsek diye düşünürken oybirliği ile Van’a gitmeye karar verdik. O güne kadar hiçbirimizin gitmediği bir yerdi Van. Bu fikir beni çok heyacanlandırdı çünkü Akdamar Katedrali, fotoğraflardan gördükçe, yakından görmeyi çok arzu ettiğim bir yerdi. Gerek minicik bir adanın ortasındaki konumu, gerek iç ve dış işlemeleri ile bence eşsiz bir tarihi ve mimari zenginlik abidesi.

Very few places are so clearly connected with a flower in my mind. Bodrum and Kaş means begonia, all Aegean cost is the land of savory with its magnificient smell and Thrace region is full of sunflower fields. But, at the top of this list, Van sits with its image surrounded by poppies. Van reminds the unique Van cats to many people (Van cats’ eyes are coloured differently; generally, one is blue an other one is green); but for me, this city is the land of beautiful poppies. And last but not least; The Akdamar Cathedral (located on Akdamar Island in Van Lake) is another treasure that is homelanded by Van.

It was the May of 2011. Together with our couple friends, we purchased the discounted Pegasus tickets for a future use. One day, while we were thinking where to go with these tickets, the consent was to go to Van. None of us was ever been in Van before. This idea excited me a lot because the Akdamar Island and the Cathedral was a place of attraction for me which I wanted to have a closer look. With its unusual location in the middle of a small island and interior and exterior design, it is a unique example of historical and architectural wealth.

10. yy'da inşa edilmiş olan Katedral, ortaçağ Ermeni sanatının en güzel eserlerinden birisi olarak gösteriliyor ve bence bu tanımlama bu güzellik için az bile. Dış yüzeydeki kabartmalar, kutsal kitaplarından sahneler anlatıyor.

The Cathedral, which is built by 10th century, is defined as one of the most beautiful pieces of middle age Armenian art but this definition is not enough really, it deserves more than this. The exterior reliefs are showing scenes from the Christian sacred book.

Benim Van'la ilgili olarak anlatmak istediğim asıl konular bunlar olsa da, Van çok zengin yöresel kahvaltısı ve zengin et menüsü ile de turist çeken bir şehrimiz. Yemek fotoğrafları paylaşmak konusunda kendimi çok rahatsız hissetsem de, meraklıları için ilgi çekici olabileceğini düşünerek birkaç tanesine yer vermek istiyorum.

So far, I mentioned all I wanted to say about Van but I have to mention also that Van has a very rich couisine in terms of breakfast and meat oriented menu. This is another attraction for tourists visiting Van. Despite I do not feel comfortable about sharing dining/table photos, I can't stop myself at least sharing a few of them for those of you who are interested.

Bu Van gezimizde Van kalesi ile Hoşap Kalesini de ziyaret ettik. Bu iki yapı da, eğer vakit varsa görülmesi gereken yapılar arasında.  Ve son söz olarak; bir Van yazısında elbetteki kapanışı Van kedisi ile yapmadan olmaz. Bu fotoğraflar da Van kedileri için gelsin :)

Another sight seeing places that we visited in Van are, Van Castle and Hoşap Castle. If you have time, you should visit those two as well. As a last word; in a short story about Van, of course I can not finish before I show couple of Van Cat photos.
